After I checked in on Sunday, I explored the city of Inverness.
It's a quant little town and it's the capital of the Highlands. The countryside reminds me of the Shenandoah. I remember Alex Canty telling me that the Highlands sit on the same teutonic plate as the Appalachian Mountains and the rocks are identical. The fault line- as I mentioned prviously- runs through Loch Lomond, separeting the Highlands from the Lowlands and England. Alex said the teutonic plate that England sits on has a different composition of rock and earth, this the drastic change in the landscape. I trekked up the hill by the city center where the Inverness Castle sits and admired the view. The Inverness Museum and Art Gallery is down the hill right below the castle. It was closed, but the visitor center was open. I booked a tour for Monday at 14:00 and the bloke there gave me some advice on the things I was interested in seeing. He gave me the bus hours to go to Fort Augustus on Tuesday so I can visit the Highland rare breeds croft. My plan is to go there in the morning and then come back and visit the Inverness Museum.
Right now I'm at a laundromat. It will take me 20 minutes to walk to the meeting point for the boat tour at 14:00 today.
