I tried to learn about the different movements but I definitely need to learn more about them now that I have a very basic understanding. Surrealism is about utilizing the unconscious dreaming to inspire the work. Cubism uses multiple perspectives and tries to make each area of the canvas as important as the subject. Realism is a movement to capture reality that we see and interpreting it modernly (thats my own definition). I really liked a piece involving multiple T.V. screens to tell multiple versions of a dinner between a man and a woman that turns violent. The piece itself was alright, but it inspired me to make a video using the idea of the same scene being played out with different plot lines.

Sun June 16 - 10:00 (London: Tate Modern)
After the Tower of London yesterday, I came back to Victoria to eat and change my socks since they got wet in the rain. I went back out to Tate Modern and it was the most out-there art museum I've been to all trip. It was very interesting, but extremely modern. I had just absorbed as much as I could retain about art from the 12th century through the 20th century in other art museums. Now I was thrown into completely new styles of art as well as some modern movements of the 20th century. I saw a few Picasso paintings, surrealist paintings, realism paintings, gego pieces, and cubism paintings in addition to the new mediums of sculpture. I especially liked the canvas with the slit, the canvas with a mirror attached and a piece of art consisting of neon lights.
I tried to learn about the different movements but I definitely need to learn more about them now that I have a very basic understanding.
