Tue June 11 - 8:45 (Inverness: Loch Ness)

My boat tour yesterday was great. We sailed down the river a few miles to the opening into Loch Ness.

Well it wasn't a sail boat; it was a engine-powered boat, but it was very leisurely. The loch was beautiful and it holds the largest amount of water in the UK (though Loch Lomond is the biggest in area). It was formed after the glaciers receded from the last ice age and when it did, it carried debris up the river. The rocks and debris clogged up the river cutting it off from the waters that surrounded Scotland- turning Loch Ness into a fresh water loch. Loch is gaelic for lake.

As we continued into Loch Ness, I saw the area behind me where they held the Rockness Music Festival on June 7-9. It was described as the most beautiful outdoor music festival in the world since it is between two mountains and looks out towards the loch.

I would have loved to go this but it was expensive and I didn't know any of the bands. Luke Dinsdale, who lives in Glasgow, told me the band line-up wasn't good this year so it works out as it would have been a struggle to get there.
